What to do right now

While you’re on your way, or waiting for us to call back.

Knocked-out tooth
Pick it up by the crown, not the root. Rinse gently, don’t scrub. Put it back in the socket if you can, or in a cup of milk. Call — the first hour matters.
Broken or chipped tooth
Rinse with warm water. Keep any pieces. If it’s sharp, a bit of sugar-free gum over the edge stops it cutting your tongue.
Throbbing toothache
Ibuprofen and acetaminophen together, at the doses on the packet, works better than either alone. Cold compress on the cheek. Nothing hot on the tooth.
Lost crown or filling
Keep the crown. Avoid chewing on that side. It’s uncomfortable but not urgent — we’ll re-cement or replace it, usually same day.
Swelling in your face or jaw
This one is urgent. Call now. If it’s after 9 pm and the swelling is spreading or you’re struggling to swallow, go to the emergency room.

Call us
Tom will ask what happened and give you a time. If a tooth has been knocked out, keep it in milk and come straight in.
Stop the pain
Numb the area, x-ray it, and do whatever gets you out of pain today.
Decide the rest later
You leave with a written plan and price for the permanent fix. There’s no pressure to decide in the chair.
