What it is

Roughly one in three adults avoids the dentist because of fear. That’s a lot of people, so we don’t treat it as unusual. Tell Tom when you book, and we’ll plan for it.

Nitrous oxide takes the edge off within a couple of minutes and wears off before you leave — you can drive. Oral sedation is stronger: you take a pill an hour before, you’re drowsy through the whole visit, and most people remember very little. Someone needs to drive you home.

What happens

  1. Talk first

    A free chat about what worries you. Sometimes just knowing the plan is enough; sometimes it isn’t, and that’s fine.

  2. Pick the level

    Nitrous for most visits. A pill for longer work, or if the fear is strong. Both can be combined.

  3. The visit

    You can raise a hand and we stop — every time, no questions. That rule is the thing patients say helped most.
